A prescription is a something that almost all family physicians hand over to their patients more often than not. The prescription generally doesn't have any set format other than the illegible handwriting of the doctor. In some cases, especially the elderly there can often be confusion with the dosage, timing or the name of the medicine itself which can possibly lead to serious complications which could be easily avoided. The prescription thus is not patient centric as there is always a possibility of miscommunication.
The Vishwas prescription was designed such that the information/communication is more patient centric. The 3 coloumns created for each important meal of the day gives a clear indication of when and how much of each medicine one is supposed to consume through the day. The do's and dont's help in educating the patients further about their role in the recovery process beyond the medicines. Combining all this with doctors notes, next consult date and basic pateint vitals info, the prescription becomes a concise summary of the consult for the patient to take back with them.
Prototypes of the prescriptions are being tested and refined. Please check this space for more updates. If you are doctor, and would like to adopt our prescription format, please write to us on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

In most clinics, after a physician consult, medicines are dispensed by the assistant or patients are asked to go to the pharmacy/chemist to purchase their medicines. Sometimes medicines may not be in stock, and patients have to run from pillar to post to get the right medicines. Also pharmacists may not take the time to explain to the patient about dosage schedules, side effects, etc. Wouldn't it be convenient, if doctors are able to stock medicines and dispense medicines on their own. It would allow for more personalized attention and care. However the challenge is to design a system that is user friendly for the doctor and allows for easy spotting, recognizing, dispensing and maintaining the inventory. Also worth mentioning that the system should be appropriate for a small size clinic where space is a constraint and should be aesthetically pleasing.
Initial prototypes of the Drug Dispensing System have been developed, and a patent is being filed for the same. There used to be a time when it was difficult to spot a doctor without their trademark 'doctor's bag'. Doctors would often make home visits, and would carry a virtual clinic in the stocky black leather briefcase. With advancing times, one would expect the doctor's kit to evolve and become more sophisticated. But sadly, the trademark doctor's bag has gone extinct. The occasional home visit made by the doctor more often than not may lead to a prescription for the pharmacy or a referral slip for the hospital. But then, a doctor can be more effective if the right tools are available. There is a need to reinvent the doctor's bag so that it becomes a veritable kit for doctors to deal with emergencies and home visits.

Most of us tend to ignore our health especially as we get older and busier. We are aware of the basics that we need to follow in order to be and stay healthy, but lack the self motivation and discipline. But as adults we tend to be highly concerned of others, especially the health of our family and loved ones. A doctor can only do so much in terms of affecting your daily health habits and making these changes lifelong. After all change starts at home. For a life long change the family needs to encourage each other, but mere suggestions, advice and constant nudging isnt necessarily the most effective way to do it. There needs to be a better way for a family to stay healthy together.
